The problem we kept running into

Thomas has 15+ years in the field and checks every job like an inspector, not just an installer. But experience doesn’t cancel out time pressure. On a full day of installs and inspections, it’s easy for a small thing — a missing blanking plate, a label that’s taped on instead of printed, a clause that’s easy to forget because it doesn’t come up often — to get missed. Most of the time nothing comes of it. Sometimes it fails a re-inspection, or worse, it’s the one thing an insurer or a new homeowner needed to be able to rely on.

Why we didn’t just ask ChatGPT

General-purpose AI tools will happily tell you what SANS 10142-1 says — and get it wrong, because they’re guessing from general training data, not from the actual standard. For something with real safety and legal weight, a confident guess isn’t good enough. So instead of asking an AI to recall the standard from memory, we built VoltFlow around a clause library we manually checked, page by page, against the physical SANS 10142-1 manual — over 100 clauses across sections 4 through 8, each one verified against the real text before it ever went into the tool. When VoltFlow cites a clause, it’s citing something we actually read and confirmed, not something the model guessed at.

How it works

What VoltFlow is not

It doesn’t issue a Certificate of Compliance, and it never will — under South African law, only a registered person can do that. VoltFlow is a second set of digital eyes, not a replacement for the person actually doing the inspection. Every result it returns still needs to be confirmed by a registered person before a COC is signed off. That’s not a limitation we’re working around; it’s the whole point — a tool that catches what’s easy to miss, backing up the judgement of someone who’s actually qualified to make the call.
